Key Frame Irregularities and Suggestions

I am experiencing odd things with keyframes. It doesn't seem to matter what effect or pan/zoom, it is anything which has keyframe control, and it is just strange to me. Am I missing something?

For the last 3 weeks, EVERY time I worked with something that had keyframes, if I clicked on the "Go to the farthest left most" button, it always jumped to the very last frame of the PRECEEDING clip, rather than the very first frame in the main clip I was working with. This was most annoying, since I only occasionally wanted to see the last frame of a clip I was not working with.

Lately, however, sometimes, but not always, I get the exact opposite effect. When I click for left most, I get the correct first frame of the main clip, but when that is working correctly, if I click for right most, I get the first frame of the NEXT clip. The oddest thing is that it keeps changing, either leftmost is out of sync, or rightmost, but never are both out, or both in sync.

I can actually see a benefit for jumping into the preceeding or following clip, under certain controlled circumstances, but not randomly, and not when I don't want to.

SUGGESTION: I would LIKE to have the ability to jump for left most to right most in the SAME clip, something I have never had.

SUGGESTION: Add the ability to click on right (left) most, and it goes to exactly that, the right most or left most frame of the event you are working in. However, if you click on right (left) most, again, THEN, jump to the last first, or last frame of the following or preceeding clip. This would allow for quick checks on color matching, pan and zoom settings, and many other things BETWEEN adjoining frames of different clips without having to leave whatever you are working on to view a preview. If right (left) most is clicked, again, it should go BACK to the main event you are working on.

In other words, this would, if controlled, be a wonderful way to jump back and forth beteen the first frame of the main clip and the last frame of the preceeding clip, or the last frame of the main clip and the first frame of the following clip, and back and forth. It would be, in effect, a wonderful planning and matching tool.

Meanwhile, how do I control what we have? Mainly, how do I STOP it from jumping out of the clip I am working on?

Judging from your previous post on printing to tape, I might also recommend an uninstall and reinstallation of VV3c clean. Just might clean up the problems you are experiencing.

good luck,

I have the time Monday, and was planning to do it. Thanks, anyway. I will post the results.

you might be seeing a frame quantization problem. frames in your source events might not be lining up perfectly with your project frames. try turning on options | Quantize to frames if it's off and then nudging your events using ALT+NUMPAD-LEFT/RIGHT which will move them by a single frame.

I have had Quantize to Frames on for weeks, standard. When I start new projects they start with it. Still have problems. Nudging doesn't seem to help.

Well, back to the forum after spending a good while uninstalling, cleaning the registry, reinstalling, and starting up, again.

I see, now, after reading my original post, that I LEFT OUT A VERY IMPORTANT THING.

The keyframe "frame" on the computer is working correctly, IT IS ON THE EXTERNAL MONITOR where everything gets out of whack. It jumps into and out of preceeding or following clips ONLY ON THE EXTERNAL MONITOR. The part on the computer is fine. Unfortunately, with my cokebottle glasses, I want to use the external monitor rather than the computer 's tiny view.

And, yes, it is still messed up after reinstalling. I tried chesehole's suggestion about nudging, made no difference either on the computer or on the external monitor.

The computer monitor and the external monitor are actually showing different things.
