Key Framed Text/Font Size jump?

Grazie wrote on 11/2/2004, 11:44 PM
Am I late to this particular table?

Intial KF, say - Font 12 . . Last KF - Font 60 . . It jumps! No gradual increase in size, from 12 to 60? Yes I can use P/C or Track motion . . . But not happenning within Generated MEdia Text "Sample Text"?

Grazie

use scaling if you must, but it will likely be jerky. These aren't vectors, they're fonts. Track Motion is the way to do this if you want it to work right.

Of course you are correct. It is the philosophy of the Media Generator that implies one thing and does another . . Ok, old stuff here Spot. The Placement tab "shows" the positional movement of a piece Text - scrub the t/l and you'll see what I mean - but contrary to this Font size doesn't? Jsut a thought. No, I really don't want, "jerky" text - unless I'm looking for it!

As I do, I'll stick with other solutions.

Thanks Spot,

This one confused me a bit too. Most fonts are vector based, and arbitrary scaling is possible. I have other software that lets me specify font sizes like 35.823143 with no problems and the result is definately smaller than 36 and larger than 35, so fonts must be able to scale smoothly. It just seemed odd that Vegas would behave the way it does rather than scaling smoothly from one keyframe to the next. *shrug* It would be nice, and it seems like it should work. It doesn't. I use other methods.

Actually a pretty useful feature sometimes, keyframed font changes can be used to expand the "styles" in scrolling credits beyond the default 3 by keyframing in new font.parameters. Edward Troxels latest Vegas newsletter brought this to my attention. Darryl

Quite true!

However, this could still be achieved by using Hold on keyframes even if fonts did scale smoothly.

Boris Graffitti is great for this Kind of thing. I have done it a few times by accident.
