Keyframe not 'syncing'...can't figure out why

Here is the deal...

I'm producing a video for a client and I have an idea for one of the opening screens that I'd like to pitch. Basically their logo is going to fade is screen center...cute background video is playing...voiceover is going ... a little music...All that is fine.

but I want to have a few video windows (PiP) scroll up the right side of the screen...as well as scroll across the bottom of the screen. So on the right side, you will see a PIP row of say 5 video windows scroll up...while 5 or so scroll across the bottom.

but as I'm testing this...I can't seem to get them to sync. I can get PIP (that's a no brainer)...but the way I'm going about this is (right same as left):

First timeline is video box one. Keyframe it to start at bottom and scroll to top. Set two key frame (beggining and end).

Timeline two has different video - but the same keyframes as timeline one. Then...I offset timeline two to start...say...two seconds after timeline one.

Here is what is happening.

Somewhere in the middle - timeline one speeds up...then slows down. This casues the second video to get closer...then further away from the first video. And so on and so on.

Either there is a bettre way to achieve this effect - or I'm missing something.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanx.

Simple solution:

On the left side is a setting called "Smoothness". Change this from the default of 100 to 0. Then all should be fine.

I saw that setting at 100...but didn't think to modify that one. I will give that a shot.

In the interim, I had decided to use the 3d plugin and that seems to be working too.

Thankx

Double-check your keyframe points. one might be set to something other than linear. Also, it's easy to put two keyframe points so close to each other that it looks like one point. That way, you change one point, but don't see that other point right beneath it (use CTRL-arrow keys to step thru each point).

Pelladon....thanks for the tip. But here is what I did and why it wasn't making sense to me.

I started with clip 1. Cropped it to where I wanted it to be at the start of the timeline (directly at 0:00). Then put in the next key frame at 15 seconds, and moved my object to the other end of the screen. This way...it would take 15 seconds for the object to scroll across the screen.

Then I made object two with the exact same settings (0 and 15 second key frame). Then I would offset object two...by about 2 seconds...so it scrolls 'behind' object one.

Having the same two key frames shouldn't cause one to speed up/slow down. And...they are all set to linear.

But it happens when I change all to slow or smooth too.

But when using the plugin 3d plugin...I, so far, don't seem to have this problem.

Anyone try and recreate this little 'issue'?

The "issue" is resolved if you change the "smoothness" to zero as I stated before.

With the smoothness at 100, it is trying to "smooth things out" for you. So, instead of getting a jarring start and stop, it gradually speeds up, proceeds at a constant speed across, and then gradually slows down at the end.

Changing the smoothness to zero will make it go a constant speed all the way across.

Right. As was finally made clear to me by MarkWWW at http://www.mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=232047, you have both spatial and temporal aspects. Your spatial is fine, but your temporal is smoothed. You need to "unsmooth" it, which will cause a constant/linear pan in time.
