@Mimi-Steel Do you by any chance have the Sync Cursor button activated. This must be enabled to allow the timeline cursor to sync with the keyframe controller cursor. See the image below where it is enabled.

Note that they will only move in unison when either of them are scrubbed.

@Jack-S Thanks for your prompt response. I do have the Sync Cursor on and I still can't get the pan/crop window to synch with the main system. Also, I am setting up the keyframes but the system doesn't seem to remember where I set each keyframe. I understand that the first step is to put in the key frame, then move the zoom in or zoom out to the position I want it. How do I ensure the keyframe remembers that position? Does anyone offer classes on this stuff. I am self taught and having a lot of problems trying to do keyframes properly. I have looked at tutorials on YouTube but they haven't helped.

@Mimi-Steel I've dealt with keyframing in several of my YouTube videos (my channel name is Veteran Video Editor). You should probably start with tutorial 20 which deals with the absolute basics of keyframe animation.

Once you're comfortable with the basics, you could then move on to the more advanced tutorial number 33.

Have a look at tutorial 20 and if you still have questions, feel free to come back.

EDIT - I've just noticed that you're using the pan/crop tool. In those two tutorials I used the Titles and Text plugin, which has very similar keyframing to the pan/crop tool. I also noticed that you have some red keyframes. This is an indication that the interpolation curve is set to 'Hold'. This means that the parameter will hold at that value until it reaches the next keyframe. This is probably causing your problem. Right-click on the red keyframes and select 'Linear'. See if that sorts it.

@Jack S I skimmed through your videos and they only address the issue of the text. I am trying to zoom in and out on video. For context, I compete in agility with my dog. The field is 100X100. My camera is stationary at the front of the course. I am running from the front to the back and from side to side depending on how the course is laid out. Here is a . I was told by a friend that I needed to use either linear or smooth to start the zoom and then "hold" to keep it in place while I was at that position on the field, then zoom back out as I got closer to the camera. I haven't found any tutorials that address that type of issue and the user manual is not very helpful. I have attached a coursemap so you can see how we run all over the field according to the numbers on the obstacles.

@Mimi-Steel Right, I see what you're trying to achieve. I presume that you're OK with the zooming out and in, and it's just the keyframing you're having problems with.

Firstly, you don't have to use the Hold option to keep the zoom level constant.
This is how I'd do it.
Move the keyframe controller cursor to a position on the pan/crop timeline where you want to start the zoom.
Add a keyframe there. Then move the cursor to a position where you want the zoom to stop. Use the handles on the pan/crop frame to achieve the level of zoom. This will create a keyframe there.
Go to a position on the controller timeline where you want a change in zoom. Add a keyframe.
Now move to a position where you want the new zoom to stop. Use the handles to adjust your zoom/position. This will create a keyframe.
Go to a position where you want the new zoom/position to start. Add a keyframe.
Carry on doing this until you finish.
If you want the zooms to be more smooth you must add the Fast option to the keyframe at the start of the zoom.

Hope this helps.

@Jack S It's been a while since I looked at keyframes. Life got in the way. Anyway, I just took another look and I very frustrated. There does not seem to be any synchronization between my keyframe view and the view on the main screen. Here is a screenshot of my settings. Can you look at those and see if anything needs to be changed?

Hi Mimi. Yes, a quirk of the Sync Cursor function is that there's no syncing when you play the timeline. This may be expected behaviour, I don't know. But, you can get synchronicity if you scrub the cursor rather than play it. Here's a little screen capture to explain what I mean.
