keyframing glow/shadow in track motion

berenberen wrote on 2/9/2004, 8:21 PM
I'm trying to give an event a glow, and then, after the event ends, turn the glow off so it won't affect later events on the track.
I can't figure out how to turn the glow off. Unchecking the box turns off the entire effect, even for the earlier keyframes. Setting all values to zero turns off the glow outside the event, but doesn't get rid of the fleeting glow that washes over the next event as it begins.
I know I'm missing something obvious, but what?

BTW, how do I control that wash effect at the beginning of the event, supposing I don't want it altogether?

Dont know if theres a better way but I would just spice it where you want it to stop and put the second half on a layer above or below it.

Not sure what ya mean about the " wash effect ".

Ray: Thanks for your reply.

"Wash effect"; I don't know what else to call it; what it is is that as the new event with glow attached comes onscreen, the entire picture receives a momentary tint with the color chosen for the glow (it looks something like a color bleed effect).

I thought of using separate tracks for each new event, but I'm sure there must be a way to turn the glow effect off in the track itself. Isn't that the whole point of keyframing? I'm hoping someone here can help.

I just played around with it a little and I was able to remove the glow on keyframe by either setting the size to zero or sliding the color opacity all the way down.

Hope that helps, -Shon

Ah ... setting size to 0. That's something I didn't try; I'll play with it tonight. Thanks.

Yes indeed, that did work. Thank you Shon.

Still wondering, though, how one sets the glow without having the color wash effect when the new event begins (see my earlier post).

I am not able to reproduce any color wash or bleed. I put up two events on one track. keyframed glow to start and stop on the second event only. I watched the scene a couple times and went through frame by frame and found no spilling of color on any part that did not supposed to have glow. Hmmm...

I might be missing what you are trying to describe again.

Eureka! I just figured it out.

I was fading the new events in; during the period of the fade, the glow is visible across the entire screen, because there's no video there yet; as the video comes clear, the "color wash" gradually disappears.

I didn't realize that glow is not just at the edges, but covers the whole screen, except that it's covered by the video. (But it makes sense with what you wrote, Shon, about setting the size to 0.)
Thanks for your help.
