Keys to the Gate

Does anyone know of a plugin, or technique using Sonic
Foundry's Noise Gate or other plugins that will allow the gating of one track keyed by another?...For example a bass guitar track with a gate that only opens with the kick drum hits. You know... like with a hardware gate that also has a key input. I have Vegas Audio, SF 5.0, Acid Pro 3.0, and CoolEdit Pro 1.2. Any ideas would be appreciated

this is one function that is sorely lacking in the PC world, as far as I can tell. Waves C1 lets you chain one channel to another which can work, but is NOT convenient as you have to make the two tracks in question into a stereo track and export into an editor, OR send from one panned one way and send from the other panned another way, then solo then render the fx buss...not too handy for auditioning in real time.

There is a " DB Sidechain " compressor that works ok, but latency issues make it act at the wrong time, same with TC DeX, which also has a sidechain and a key input.

Plugin developers I have chatted with tell me it would be a VERY hard thing to make a sidechain work correctly because of plugin delay and latency.

I hope someone can fix this.

And how about a GOOD, frequency keyed, look ahead noise gate? Its about time! For now I have to open my tracks in wavelab and use " VST Dynamics" blah....make a DX one PLEASE!!!
