Keystones not showing in Track or timeline view

DavidY wrote on 12/26/2004, 3:04 PM
I can not get the keystones to show in the timeline. I have confirmed that in the view/video envelopes/track keystones menu is checked. I have also tried to size the track larger to see if it was hidden but no luck. The manual indicates and shows examples of keystones in the track/timeline view. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

Are you setting keyframes at the Track level - e.g. Track Motion?
Event keyframes won't show up on the timeline,.

I am setting keyframes in the video event FX screen. Does it matter if I set the keyframes at the track level verses the Video event? In other words will they do the same thing? How do I do it at the track level vs the event?

Keyframes within an event affect just that event, which is often exactly what you want. These are only visible when the event FX window is open.

Effects at track level affect everything on that track - Track Motion is very handy for sizing and positioning logos or Picture in Picture sizing ang placement and many many other things. The size and position, rotation etc can all be varied over time regardless of which events are on the track, and wherever you vary these, a diamond keyframe marker will be visible beneath that track on the timeline. Track level effects are applied by clicking the appropriate icon in the Track Header.

So, yes, you can do many things either at Track or Event level - depends how you want that effect to apply.

You can also apply effects at Media Pool level, which will apply every time you use that media file, or at preview level (the output window) which applies to everything in the program. (e.g. black and white or TV simulator)

Thanks Peter. Thank you for all you help. This forum is a great resource, I am sooo glad I found it as it can be fustrating trying to figure out some of these things on your own.

One other question on keyframes. I see that the keyframes will transition from one to the other slowly. I want it to switch immediatly once it hits the mark, not transition slowly. I tried the right click and changing the to the various selections in the drop down list but none of them seem to change anything. Any words of advise would be helpful.

If you want NO changes between keyframes (until it hits the next keyframe) then change the keyframe type to "Hold".

Got it now.

What if I want to have a FX for part of the event only? For example I want the sony bump map for the first 3 seconds of the 10 second event. I don't seem to be able to shut the bump map off by changing the settings for the second keyframe.

I am posting this again so it is at the top of the list. I think it got lost and I did not get a response. Please see the previous message. Any help is appreciated.

You can either split the event using "S" key, or use keyframes, if the effect is one that can be reduced to a zero setting. I'm not sure that Bump Map can be zeroed, so splitting sounds a better bet.

If you don't want the change from "bump map" to "no bump map" to be sudden, overlap the two sides of the split so that one cross fades to the other.
