Kona into FCP to Vegas Question

I have footage shot 720P/24P on a varicam but do not have a card that provides HD-SDI into Vegas. So the only way I have to get it into Vegas is to capture through a Kona card on our FCP system and then transfer through the network to the Vegas machine.

Will it work to just take the captured quicktime file and dump it straight over and into Vegas? Will I need a Kona codec of some sort on my Vegas machine? Should I render it out as something different in FCP before sending to Vegas? Thanks in advance!

I don't have experience with the KONA cards but with the I/O & BLACKMAGIC cards all I had to do was go to the site and download the CoDec and I was up and running. Hopefully the same is true for you.

On the AJA site the QT CoDecs for Windows are at the bottom of this page:

Thanks for replying. I had looked at that earlier but it says that those drivers are only for Kona 2 or LS cards - not the Kona 3 which is what we have.

Try the blackmagic codec,, I think it works for some kona cards

Try codecs for the Xena Card as it is basically the same card as the Kona BUT has drivers for both Windows and MacOSX.

I investigated this card as I'm considering getting one for my Mac Pro and AJA replied that I can install it in the Mac Pro and use it under MacOSX or Window via bootcamp. As I run FCP under OSX and Vegas when I boot the Mac into Windows XP via bootcamp it seems to be the answer.
If you download the Xena driver software it may install the codec you need and work with Vegas.

Certainly worth a try though.
