Rendering an uncompressed, full size avi is kind of
pointless unless you are doing ultra-high-end video. File
sizes are huge and VERY few systems can play these files
back.

Try rendering to the "NTSC DV" template- this is the DV
format- works perfectly with VF, good codec (esp with DX8,
free from MSFT), plays back great in Media Player 7 too.
