Laptop I/O for capture and preview

Hi,

I need a preview monitoring solution for my laptop Vegas 8b installation (this is not a problem with the desktop since I can install cards). I have RGB, Y/C, and firewire outputs. For SD I can use any of those outputs with enough quality to accomplish my goals. I use an inexpensive camcorder to transcode from firewire to A/V. But for HD I have a problem. I use an EX1 for HD and its only input is iLink (firewire) and it requires HDV. I can't get preview to configure HDV (only widescreen DV, which the EX1 doesn't recognize). So I'm wondering if there is a firewire to component w/ audio bridge out there. Or a USB 2.0 device that would allow me to output higher quality preview. (I've searched, but so far haven't come up with anything.)

Additionally I'd love to have an HD I/O option for capture and print to tape, as well as preview.

I can do all this via cards for my desktop. Is it too soon to expect external laptop devices that will do this?

(I'm a new kid on this block... sorry I hit the wrong button and created a "bump" topic. Delete is not so much delete on here...)

I don't have an answer, but I'll bump it up again. Someone will have some feedback.
