Now's as good a time as any, IMO.
I just ordered a new VAIO, but sure waffled between it and the new Ferrari/Acer.
I chose the VAIO, but it was a tough call. VIAO screen is a full 1900 x 1200...it's heavy.

Thank you sir.
I'll check them both out. I sure like that screen, though; 1900x1200 sounds sweet!
(Edit) - I have checked out the Ferrari now, but don't see a Vaio that is in it's speed range. Which Vaio did you go with? I'd like to research a bit. Thanks again.

Not sure what your budget is, but... for the record:

Alienware has their MJ-12M 7700 series, which supports:
* true P4 HT (up to 3.8Ghz (most laptops today only have Pentium-M
* Optional RAID-0 (up to 240GB)
* 17" widescreen (up to 1920x1200)
* DVD burner (optionally slot-loading vs. tray-loading)
* Up to 3GB DDR2 533MHz RAM
* 12-cell battery
* in-home warranty

I priced out a 3.4GHz with RAID 0 2x60GB 5400RPM drives, 2GB, slot-load DVD and 2-year in-home warranty for about $3400. They'll also pre-install Vegas, Acid, or SoundForge for you.

Now, the deal is: if you DO get one of these, we'll all need to see a video of you standing around with it while your friends are drooling with envy... (and money left in the bank)

Oh, one more thing: if you're getting a Dell, be sure to visit www.GotApex.com first! Every day they post coupons, and some of the Dell ones are phenomenal (I just used one for 40% off any Inspiron about a month ago and saved a mint! These coupons come and go quickly, and some are limited to a specific number of uses.

Have fun shopping!

Alienware laptops are just rebranded laptops sold at a higher price.
Look at sager notebooks and poweroid.com... same laptops at a lower price.

Good info regarding sager and poweroid. The specs on the high-end poweroid look eerily similar to the alienware 7700...

In all honesty, nearly every laptop today comes from only a few core manufacturers and then gets rebranded. Then it comes down to warranty, extras, price, etc.
