No idea about this model and I cannot give you alternate recommendations. However...

Acer is well known as the biggest POC available. Lowest quality, biggest number of complaints. Cheap but junk.

I've bought Acer once: a cheap $100 CD burner back when $100 was cheap for a x2 CD burner. I knew all about Acer's quality problems but I was willing to take a chance to save some $$. I paid for my cheapness by wasting 100 hours trying to fix a coaster and corrupted backup problem. I thought it was software, in total frustration I eventually tried another burner, no more problems. Never Acer never again.

OTOH, its quite possible you'll love it and never have any problems. That is the nature of software/hardware failure rates. It'll work for some, it'll fail for others. It might fail tomorrow. It might run for years. You may get lucky, you may get unlucky. Just be aware that with Acer your chances of failure are much higher than with anyone else.
