Large rendered filesize and mpeg-1 support?

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible or not to convert
video files directly into mpeg-1 format instead of me
having to render .mov's to .avi and then use a diff.
program to convert it to mpg. Also, when I do render a
file into .avi, the file size is huge!! A simple 30 sec.
file will be 200mb+, am I doing something wrong?

THanks for any help, and please email me at
packersg92@cs.com if you answer this

AVI files ARE big. Just multiply out the bits taking into
account your resolution, frame rate, etc. I don't think
you're doing anything wrong.

I'm not sure this will help you, but I capture/render to
avi using my Matrox hardware mjpeg compressor. This gives
great results and about 5 min per GB at 704x480 (a 2 hour
tape render is about 24-28 GB). Good thing hard drive are
cheap!
