latency using digi001 asio

krhodes wrote on 5/3/2005, 5:41 PM
currently wokring on a project using vegas, digi001 w/ asio drivers

4 tracks, stacked 3 times - all vocals (one track of midi for guide)- using 3,4,5,6 in, and 1&2 out. taking out into spirit digital board and using aux sends for headphone monitor & talkback -

I am getting a delay (latency) on the vocals - the midi seems fine I wasnt getting it when I was using a mac with protools (however I was using the digital out from the digi & into the digital in on the board)

any ideas?

Check your buffer sample rate and change it to either 256 or 512 sample rate. Sometimes using 256 you might get clicks and pops, but I normally set my buffer sample rate to 512. That should solve the problem for you... Whenever you are recording you should set your H/W Buffer size to either of those settings. But when you began to mix down the tune, you can go back to 1024 samples.

thanks for the tip - tried it, and the latency was gone, however I started to get alot of "digital distortion" and clicks & pops

if it is a choice of either or, I will take the latency -

do I just need to scrap the idea of using the digi001 & asio drivers and just buy a echo layla?

Well the Echo cards certainly are quite stable with Sony apps and have low (not zero) latency. Of course the power of your system factors into this as well. I have been using Laylas since they came on the market and found them to be quite satisfactory – so much so that I've never even tried anything else. Given that I just don't have any problems with them, its hard to consider going to something different, even though I know there are much better sounding cards available.
