Latest current-drive CDA-compatibility chart...

...recently updated and available at

Of interest may be the tip on using a hex editor to modify either the atapimmc.cdd or scsimmc.cdd file. The only thing to change is to pick an outdated drive entry and replace it with your current drive. In my case, I picked one of the Sony drive entries and replaced it with an entry for my TDK Velocd 161040x. Doing so allowed the drive to show up in the drive list without resorting to the "MMC Compatible" workaround. It also allowed me read access to the drive for audio extraction and PQ subcode extraction within CD Architect...neither of which I could do before making the change. As for burning speed choices, I still only have "Max" available and the burning status display is wrong (seems to be based on a 1x burn), but other than that I am fairly satisfied.

I would be interested in hearing from a SF Tech on whether this mod could potentially result in anything harmful.

It's really hard to say. Anything you hack that wasn't originally intended to work that way could have negative results. The only way you'll know will be to test it out. We can't really test out hacks; they just aren't supported. But it's cool that you are doing it and that it seems to be working. Good luck!

Which hex editor would you recommend?
I dearly need my HP 9310i to start working.

Thank You.

Most any hex editor would probably do it. I used one called FXedit simply because it was a small download. You can find it at http://www.gregorybraun.com/FxEdit.html

I'm not sure if this will be a magic fix for you or not. If you haven't been able to get your drive to work at least partially via MMC-Compatibility, I'm not sure this will help. Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to try. BTW, the drive table is located about halfway through the file.

Just curious...

I can't burn straight out of CDA (even with selecting MMC compatible drive - which mine is). However, I can burn via Colin Hills program. Do you think this may allow me to burn from within CDA?

Also, what is the drive identification code that I'd need from my drive to modify the file? Where can I find that info?

Thanks!

By the way, Brent, many thanks for the trouble of putting up the CDA page on the web. It's a great resource.
