Layer Break Question with DVD Arch 4.5 Pro

Folks,

I am trying to burn on a dual layer DVD and DVDA gives the following message:

"A suitable layer break position could not be found. The layer break can be placed between titles and at chapter points and must occur within certain region of the DVD."

It then says: Please insert chapter marker in title "HS Musical-2 Dance Along" between "01:18:22.965" and "01:30:15.677".

I inserted a Chapter marker from the DVD-A timeline between 01:18 and 01:30, but when I try to prepare the DVD again the message reappears.

Any ideas what I need to do to fix this?

I see this same question was asked once before, but was never answered. (see

Don't know if this will help or not -- I don't use DVDA for the LB (for several reasons) so haven't experienced your prob or anything like it... Maybe it's caused by the break not coming close enough to the midpoint? You could find out by rendering your DVD to hdd, then opening it in PGC edit & following the procedure to create an image file -- this will give you reliable info at least on whether there's a cell that can be used for the LB, maybe where to better place one etc... And you'd have the option of going ahead and creating an image file if you wanted, then burn that.

The LB is just a designated cell -- anything before that cell goes on one layer, that cell and everything else get burned to the 2nd. DVDA creates a cell wherever you place a chapter. If you think of the data burned to DVD as a continuous stream, the exact midpoint of that data is ideally where the layer break should be -- if you only burned 2 gig to a DL DVD, the layers should have 1 gig apiece. And +R is handled differently than -R (you can find more info at forums/guides etc. re: ImgBurn & PgcEdit).

I just prepared a DL with DVDA4.5a. I did not want to burn a DL, or cue one up since my burner does not support test mode, so I a created a master. (On the layer break behavior page I had set "prompt me to choose the layer break point".) I selected write master, next, and Mastering tab and made sure the parms were set to 2 layers..., next, next , and DVDA posted the message that a suitable layer break could not be found please insert a chapter point..... I inserted a chapter point within the specified region on the timeline of the specified movie in DVDA and prepared the project again. I again went through the same steps as before with write master. This time the chapter point I added was displayed at candidate layer break point. It worked for me.

Check and make sure you added the chapter point in the correct region and make sure you prepared the project again after you added the chapter point.

Thanks Ed, you trigger me to go back and review what I did. I found the problem. When selecting "Make DVD" I selected "Previously Prepared Folder" rather than "Current Project" selection from the Select Prepare Folder dialog box. Hence, even through I had inserted the marker on the DVDA timeline in a correct position the burn attempt was still being based on the prior DVDA project that did not have the Layer Break marker.

Thanks again!

I just had the same exact problem trying to burn a dual layer disk with dvd architect Pro, kept getting error message saying suitable break point could not be found add chapter marker at such and such time, I figured out if you break down the video track into 4 respectively same size chapter's when you go to burn it it will say showing best suitable layer break and give you a chater number, just hit next and it's all good, it will burn with no issues.
