Layered DVD Menu

Hi everyone,

I am transferring an instructional dance video to DVD. There are four main sections. Each of these sections goes into detail about the topic.

I would like to create a DVD menu as follows: The main menu page would have a "Play All" selection and then a "Chapter selection" button. If the user selects "play all" the movie plays, if the users selects the "Chapter selection button", I would like the choices to be "Section 1, Section 2, Section 3, Section 4". If the user selects one of these, then they are presented with the chapters that pertain to that section.

Is this possible in DVD Architect?

Thanks bStro for answering that one!

OK, now I have that part done, but I nave another question. I have the FBI copyright BLAH BLAH BLAH warning at the "First play" section on the DVD architect set up.

Most of the "remote buttons" are set to "on". I remember from VASST and the NAB seminar that we can turn a couple of these to "off" so that people cannot fast forward through these warnings.

Which ones should I turn to off (to give the DVD the most professional appearance)?

Thanks,
Colleen

Personal preference, really. Me, I would normally be kind to my audience and leave all the buttons on. I hate being forced to watch anything on a DVD, I'm sure many others do, too.

But, if you want to model your disc after commercial ones, I guess you could just turn off most of them. At the very least, though, I would leave the PAUSE and STOP buttons enabled.

Thanks again Bstro!

Yes, I know that it is "not nice" to disable these buttons. But this DVD is instructional dance and one of the warnings is about liabilities and that the person should consult a physician, etc. I want to disable the buttons since then a person has had these warnings, for liability purposes, etc.

I turned most of them off, but left the pause and stop on. Also, do you know what the buttons are for that say "title play" and "video mode"?

Thanks,
Colleen

As you select any setting in the Properties window, DVDA describes that setting at the bottom of the Properties window. This includes the various Remote Button settings.

Title Play play[s] a title by title number.
Video Mode change[s] between wide, letterbox, and pan-scan in a 16:9 video presentation.

Which buttons are actually on a remote can vary from remote to remote, and in fact the exact behavior sometimes also varies. Sony's just trying to cover the most common buttons.
