I wonder if we can create a template for that ;-). Production Assistant maybe?
Totally kidding.

Funny because it's true. What's sad is, it actually makes its point, and is produced better, than most news on TV.

Vegas can do that. Use Options/Preferences/Newswipe/ Set BS to High.
Additional plug-ins available from Pointless Technology.

What WAS the piece talking about? - I didn't get it at all??? Most irritating indeed. I started listening and then it was as if I was supposed to be taking what was being said seriously. However, if it HAD been speaking about a relevant issue, for example, the "A Webinare Too Far!", then maybe it would have meant something to me. This way it left me kinda cold, and not a little irritated.

Actually, I felt the whole layout, general presentation and demeanor had very high, production values indeed. If it wasn't for the totally spurious content then that is EXACTLY the format I aspire to. I just can't stand somebody presenting stuff which is meaningless and pointless. WHAT'S the point?!??

I guess it takes all sorts? Was that the idea . . ?

I recorded the whole show last night as I want to keep that feature for future reference.

CB has a great way of deconstructing television - and society... Anyone remember Nathan Barley? He was behind that. just have a browse at www.tvgohome.com to see where it all started

Hi Grazie,

I thought it was having a dig at "over-formulaic" tv presentations, and did include several things that I've criticised myself, such as the unmotivated walk of presenters towards the camera, and those meaningless hand movements they seem to thinbk they have to do while they're talking. Then it had a go at some of the cliched shots that are used to pad out reports.
It was a send up, but I can see that if what they're sending up is not a problem, then it would seem pointless.

Yours truly,

Oh, I see, it was a "send-up" - got it! <wink>

Pete, you is a real Gent!

Grazie

Irony, it's what us Britz do best. That and loose Football World Cups

This piece was Very Professionally done.
Looks like they have a system down for putting together video pieces rather quickly and cost effectively.

Get this shot, this shot, this shot.
Show the Commentator, put in a V.O., Print!

This system works provided you have a decent story to go along with it.
(We see it on the tele all the time)

-Edit with a proven system like this and you'll have very happy clients and plenty of time to spend with the family or on to the next project making more money. Or, spend all your time trying to reinvent the wheel and look up one day and notice you've spent all your time working... away from what really matters.

or.... come up with a few styles so it's not redundant. Not sure about UK but the national news in the US on the big three broadcasters is ~5/6 stories in an hour or so. Most of it filler. I'd rather have it be more like local news where it's getting me the news not filling with fluff.

In my opinion, the *JOB* of news agencies is to give the news not to try to win any prices or one up a competitor on style.

Brilliant way to make the point...

It isn't easy to be creative when you have to repeat something day in and day out though.

In the end, this is an indictment of the standard format for TV news.

How many people here have the patience to sit through 30 minutes of commercials and 10-15 minutes of interstitials announcing other programs and "the news to come this hour" just to get the news that you can get in 2-3 minutes on the web?

TV has one advantage, and it should focus on that: the video quality is better than what most people get on their computers. That can be used to go deeper than what the web supports for most people today.

To anyone who didn't speak English, that would look exactly like every other News story. Well done, and very funny!

Just had to bump this as I remember this skit from years ago and the www is just incredible as it took less than 30 seconds to find it.

And he made the most of the "Lord Privy Seal" too :O).
