Length Changes in nested Projects

Hello,

I must be missing something but when I am editing a nested project by opening a nest in a second instance of Vegas Pro 8, if I change the overall length of media in the nest, when I get back to the Master project the overall length has not changed. All other changes (FX titles etc) are there and intact.

Is there a remedy for this? Thanks.

Vegas (and all other editors that I know of) never alter the source media. Thus, if you cut or apply fX to video, the original video file is not altered.

This extends to VEG "video" files. Thus, if you put a VEG file on the timeline, and then make changes (apply an fX, cut it, etc.) nothing is ever changed in the source. Thus, it is totally consistent with the editing paradigm used by all video editing programs.

I wouldn't expect event lengths to change. Otherwise your master project would be changed by changes in nested projects.

Ah. Thank you very much. I have found however that I can drag the end of a nest in the master project (whose length I have changed in a second instance of Vegas) to accomodate the extra time. It seems that the media is there, but the Master project holds on to the old duration until altered.

Thanks again for your insight!

You need to change the length of the nested event in the parent project to match if you make the child longer or shorter.

Thanks Bob, that's what I was looking for.
