length of events

I like it that when I create a Loop Region, I can type in a specific time in the selection length box.

Is there a way to type in a specific time for an event length? Dragging the edge of events changes the length. But it is hard to be precise.

The same question applies to transition lengths. Right now I've got 1;26 1;08 1;27 1;25 between 5 events. That's not a lot of difference, but I'd prefer to type in a length so it would be consistent.

You know, i used to worry about this a lot. Then i realized that i could eyeball that 1:08 transition pretty close to the other 4 in about a half a moment and even if they were different from each other by a few frames, no one would ever notice. I couldn't even tell and i knew they were different. Don't sweat it.

You are probably right, but if anyone knows how to type in a specific length, I'd like to know. ;>}

Two tricks:
1) Position the cursor where you want the transition to begin; you can move frame per frame using the arrow keys. Next drag the event until it snaps to the cursor.
2) Under the timeline, on the right hand side of the screen (above the preview screen), there are two numerical indicators. The one to the left indicates the position of the cursor. When you double click it, you can set the position by typing the numbers.

Hi Suzham,
Create a region, then double click it's counter and set it to exactly what you want time wise. Drag your clip over your newly created region, and start dragging the leading and trailing edges of your clip until it snaps into place. You can make your clip exactly as long or short as you want.
As for the transitions, create a region as long as you want the transitions to be. This will now be your template. Drag the template over your video clip until the right edge of the template lines up with the right edge of your first video clip, then drag your second clip over the first clip until it snaps to the left edge of the template, and just like magic you have an exact transition time every time. Let us know if this helps, and was clear enough to understand. Cin

I believe I understand the problem you're talking about - as you move one event over another, your transition duration jumps from like 8 frames long, to 17, etc. etc. Not very granular. There's actually a built-in usability function to resolve this problem.

Begin dragging the one event over the other, and ** while you're dragging **, press down "Shift". Suddenly you have much more control - literally frame-by-frame - as to how long the transition is while you're moving the event. You'll see the number in a bubble indexing up by 1 frame at a time.
