Letterboxing after Render

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Vegas 21. Taking a project from a much older version of Vegas (14 I think!) into 21 has been a breeze so far except when it came to rendering. I'm getting letterboxing. I've read around a lot of aspect ratio topics and its probably something to do with that but I can't work it out so posting for help.

I've got source recorded from nvidia screen capture software at 3440x1440, and when importing the video it did ask me about setting the project to the videos native size (or something along those lines) which I ticked yes to.

The preview window does not have said letterboxing.

I am rendering using these settings:

  • MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4
  • Internet HD 1080i 60fps
  • Frame size 1920x1080
  • Frame rate 60
  • Pixel aspect ratio 1.0000

This rendered without issue before upgrading and as far as I can tell the settings are the same (other than the magix codec). I've also rendered dozens of videos without issue using the older version of Vegas so it feels like I'm missing a setting that has changed.

When viewing the video in full screen its surrounded by black on all sides and won't full screen properly.

Any suggestions to get it properly fullscreen most welcome.

Assuming your 3440x1440 is square pixels you have a different aspect ratio to your render templates so you cannot avoid letter boxing. Your project settings and render templates need to match.

But what I dont understand is why this was never a problem until I upgraded to Pro 21?

Thank you sir that did the trick, I guess it must have been disabled after upgrading.
