levels change network render vs. non-network

Rendering a single video track to mpg with no FX, just some cuts and crops.

I noticed playing a test DVD that the levels/contrast would switch back and forth. I tracked it down to whether or not I network rendered.

Standalone render everything is contstant. Network render you get this switching of levels and contrast. So, some segments are rendered on different machines. What could make one or more of the other machines render with different levels?

The standalone machine also has the standalone Main Concept DV and MPEG encoders installed, could that change the levels on that machine so they're different from those on the network boxes? That is, did the standalone MC DV encoder mess up what Vegas uses to encode to mpg?

Related question, the standalone machine levels are not right while the segments rendered on the network boxes have the correct levels and contrast. Also seems to point to something screwed up on my main machine .

thanks all,

Hey Rocky,
I saw a similar behaviour and I am not network rendering. Check in your 'options' to see if you have 'ignore 3rd party codecs' checked or not. If you don't, that is your problem.

I saw this issue, and have reported it to SONY, when all I had on the t/line was a simple video event and above it a title (SONY generated text).

Once I 'checked' 'ignore 3rd party codecs' the problem went away.

The weird thing in my case was that this only manifested itself when I was rendering to DV AVI. Rendering directly to MPEG-2 or MP4, I did not see the problem.

HTH,
Tom

hey Tom, I think that was it. One of my clients had it unchecked. I just did a test render and I think the problem is solved.

the forum works!
