LF: HDV Sample to Test Usability on my System

GaryV wrote on 4/23/2008, 6:55 AM
Hello,
I am thinking about getting into a hi-def video camera, but am concerned about the "usability" of Vegas with my computer when I goto hi-def. I currently have a P4-D930 processor with 4 G of RAM. I'm completely satisfied with this system for SD, but clearly HD may be a different matter.

So, before I buy a new camera (which may drive a computer upgrade too and therefore push out the purchase date) I'd like to run a few tests.

I found a short clip (~1 min) of AVCHD from a previous message in this forum. Render time is ok on my system (~3x realtime) for my needs, but scrolling through the clip in the trimmer and previewing it is very painful and quite unusable in my opinion.

Can anybody point me to a similar short clip (1-3 min) of HDV source so I can see if that is any better for my system? Ideally from the HV20, HV30 or HC9 as that is the camera I'm considering for this format. I'd like to try this out and see if my system can handle that better.

Many thanks in advance!
Gary

Why not just make your own test clip?
Drop a few stills and/or gen media onto the T/L and render to the HDV format of your choice.
Thing is a 1-3 minute clip of DV or HDV is too big to email and a sizeable upload / download.

Hi,

I have been trying to do the same, "hunting" for a downloadable AVCHD sample file (preferably shot with a Sony SR11 or SR12). Hard to find, so no success so far :(

This mainly to test how badly my already very fast system chokes on AVCHD files. This - before deciding to purchase the SR12. Many might be considering the same.

Anyone kind enough to reveal an address to a clip, or provide one? Just 5..10 seconds would do (10..20MB).

Thanks in advance !

Christian

Here is a good AVCHD clip which I have been using:

It's from the new Canon HF10.

HI Gary,

Thanks for the link. I already have the austin1.mts file. It is very shaky, and shot with a Canon HF10. You don't happen to know of a clip shot with a Sony SR11/SR12?

Sorry Christian. That is the only AVCHD clip I've been able to find so far.
