LG B8 - Calman Calibration alternativs? Beginner friendly

Shogun__Gaming wrote on 4/25/2024, 3:35 AM

I recently started going down the very big rabbit hole about calibrating my 2018 LG B8 tv.

Been reading alittle about it, seen a few vids about how to use calman`s and heard on other post people talking about using colorspace or something along those lines.

Also heard about something called HCFR but again, im a noob so not sure where to begin with it.

But like the title said, im very much a beginner in calibrating, only done my 2 pc monitors using displayCAL, main reason why i ask is because my tv is a 2018 model, i need to buy that stupid expensive videoforge or whatever its called from calman also to get test patterns and well, im not doing that, im fine paying for the home for LG part of it, but if i cant use it because of the patterns, well.. :)

So can you guys help me out here, where should i begin?

PS Im not using it for gaming at all, only watching youtube and hdr/dv content

I'd try a TV-focused forum. I think there are workarounds getting android devices to display the pattern for you? I thought about it but decided the TV in cinema mode is acceptable out of the box and I'm not going to use it for grading. Someday I'll get a HDR grading monitor when they are more reasonably priced and HDR footage becomes the standard.

@RogerS yeah im already doing that, but it seems to be alot more trouble than its worth just to get that slighty better color image, maybe when i upgrade to a newer LG at some point i would try again

I think unless you intend to use it as your external display in VEGAS for color correction to not worry about it. Most advanced users will just use the filmmaker mode setting as is so I think it's fine to use to judge what your output will look like.

I have the LG C2.
