Lines in transitions and video

I have just completed a project that consists of pictures with transitions, video (some shot full and some shot widescreen), and some background music. I have done other slideshow and movie projects in the past with this program (version 6) but never together. I am having problems where there are vertical lines in the transition edges and in my video where there is movement. It makes the person that is walking have vertical lines on the edge of them which makes it seem almost a blur. I am at a loss as to what is causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try rendering a problem area at "best" setting. It defaults to good and there is
quite a difference in compilation type videos. Also is this in preview or in the final
file ?

I tried the "best" setting but still the same result. And this occurs in both the preview and final file. It only occurs where there is movement. When the video is of a stationary object, it looks great but when something moves (person walking) the movement (for example, the arms) becomes a series of lines. Almost like a picture becomes pixilated but with small, thin vertical lines.
