Link off Main Menu thumbnails?

Maybe I'm missing the obvious. I created a main menu page where I have several thumnails of videos to be burned to the DVD. Clicking on any thumbnail plays the video. Not what I want.

I want to click on the thumnail on the main menu page and be taken to a sub menu page where I'll have a series of thumbnails based on chapter points. This is very simple to do in DVD Movie Factory. I see no option to do that when I highlight a thumbnail on the main page then click the modify button on link information.

There has to be a way to do this right?

Yes, you can do this. Right-click the main menu and choose "Sub-Menu" which will add a link pointing to a menu. Now, go to the object properties for that link and you can specify what file the picture/video that link is supposed to use. You can even make it a looping motion menu link if you provide it a video file and also specify where in the file it is to start.

That still doesn't work. If I add a sub menu to the main menu page all I get is a blank box. That can link to a second page, but what good is it? I want the Main Menu page to have automated thumbnails any of which when clicked on goes to that video's sub menu page and presents a series of chapters. VERY BASIC stuff.

Worse the manual itself is confusing and incomplete. It says on page 24
Under adding a submenu:

2. From Insert menu, choose Submenu. DVD Architect adds a button to the current menu as a link to the submenu.

3. Double-click the submenu's button to edit the layout and add media.

Well duh, #2 is already talking about the SUB MENU. The manual says nothing about adding media to button you just created on the menu on the main page linking TOO the sub menu which is what I'm trying to do and can't.

I must say the manual is far below the Vegas manual as far as completness and offers little if any real help on the most basic steps such as this. There isn't even a reference to "link" in the online help index nor a word in the manual under that heading.

I can drop a video on the sub menu box, but all that does is it starts the movie playing which isn't what I want either.

BillyBoy,

Perhaps this trick will work for you. Drag and drop the video you want on the main menu. This will give you a single button on the main menu that plays the whole video. Now double click on the button, and add whatever chapter points you want (if you haven't exported them as markers from V4). Go back to the main menu. Right click on the button you added, and select "Add scene selection menu". This will add a second button to the main menu that will take you to a second menu full of scene selection buttons. Now, you can delete the first button you put on the main menu (that plays the entire movie) and all you have left is a single button that takes you to a scene selection menu. Of course, you can edit this button to put motion video on it and such.

Thanks guys, I just found a way, staring me in the face and didn't see it, but it isn't covered in the manual or online help, at least I can't find it if it is.

1. Insert a sub menu on the main page. It will start as a empty container.
2. Click on it, on the object tab way at the top under thumbnails select your video.

This allows you have a automated thumbnail on the main page with a link to a second page that can have static thumbnails or automated ones too. I knew there has to be a way. So basic.

Is that a kludge solution or what? I figured that one out too, but man, what a dumb way to have to do it.

Yes, BillyBoy, That's what I said. You have to MANUALLY set the video clip to the added button.

Yea, that's dumb. I think.
