Locating Still/PNG images without cropping

I'm used to Final Cut and Premier Pro where I adjust still/png image size (percentage), and location without cropping (unless I choose to crop). I've been experimenting with the 'Event Pan/Crop' feature, but running into limitations when moving the PNG image up or down without cropping it (left or right is not a problem). The PNG is set for overlay transperancy. Not a problem with video images. Is there a setting I'm missing, or is there another feature I should use for still/png images? Thank you for any feedback/suggestions.

If I understand what you want to do, try using Track motion.

Vegas has a weirdness in that all images are *always* cropped, and by default they are cropped to the shape of the image. This may not seem weird at first, but if you adjust the position or size at the image at all, Vegas uses the original image size as a frame to crop the image before putting it in the output frame frame and can lead to unexpected parts of the image being hidden behind this cropping frame.

The solution to avoid cropping is to set the crop to match the output shape. In Pan/Crop right-mouse-button click in the cropping frame and choose "match output aspect". You can then move the image around without unexpected cropping. If you want the entire image to be shown then drag the cropping frame out larger by one of the corner handles (to preserve the shape).

Yeah, seems backwards that you have to crop to avoid cropping. That's why i say it's weird.

No matter the crop aspect ratio, you can pull the entire stlll into frame by pulling the crop lines OUT of the video window, and it will size down, but remain uncropped. Then you can move it around by moving the entire crop box.

Also, there's a setting in the preferences to "automatically crop", which you can turn off if it's on.

Thank you for that nicely detailed explanation - and it worked. You're right, the process is a bit counter intuitive.

Thank you for that suggestion - that's exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you - found the 'auto-crop' and turned it off.
