lock-up ("Not Responding") problems...

I have purchased and installed Vegas Movie Studio 4.0a, along with the included DVD Architect Studio 2.0 software.
Any attempt to invoke the "Make DVD" function results in a failure of the software to proceed, and eventually leads to a "Not Responding" message. The only way to escape the problem is to shut down or restart the computer. (Even Task Manager won't permit an escape from the program.)
Here are the specifics on my computer:
Windows XP Home, Version 5.01.2600.
Pentium 4 (2GHz), with 512 MB RAM.
I have 18 GB free on my C-drive, and am using an external 120 GB drive via USB2 for all media storage/editing. My DVD Burner is a Sony DRX-710UL, currently connected to the computer via Firewire. It should also be noted that Nero DVD-authoring software is installed on this computer; it came with the Sony burner. I mention this, in the event that some conflict may exist between the Nero and Sony DVD-authoring programs. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Yeah,

I'm having the same problem. I have a Philips DVD+RW-D28, which burned great with DVDA when it was in my desktop. Now, I've moved on to my laptop (portable suite), and put the Philips in my external firewire enclosure. It's a Prolific PL3507-chipset combo enclosure. I had major problems with it, but then updated the firmware in the PL3507, and it worked OK. Burns just fine with Nero, but when I click on 'Make DVD' in DVDA, it just hangs and hangs and hangs hard. I don't even get to the 3-selection burn menu. Just total halt.

What's the problem?!

I am also having the same problem...

I have a Sony DRX-710UL external burner attached with firewire. I noticed that DVD arch. studio won't lock-up if I take out the blank media before I start the program. But, when I put the disc in to start burning, it gives an error right away. I am using memorex 8X DVD+R media. I want to try something else. But, this media works fine when I use NERO.

I hope someone figures this out! This is frustrating...

I have the same drive and the same problem. Apparently it is a bug with this particular drive.

Read this thread:

All we can do is wait until Sony writes a patch in the next update in DVDA.

It is apparently other drives also. Using DVDA 2.0b (build 130) and a Plextor 716A (firmware ver 1.04), I ultimately get a hard lockup (requiring a machine kill reboot). The software locks up at 99% lead-in written. The drive works fine with other writting software.
