Locks and SCut keys?

I have a thingie I cannot find the answer to.

When I want to clear a section of an audio track (let's say the section contains unwanted noise between a speech pause) I select ripple effect... select the section of the track I wish to clear... lock all the other tracks... hit the delete key.
The problem I have with this is, do I have to lock all the other tracks to prevent the same section being deleted from them or is there something I can select to only delete any section on one track?

Unless I am misunderstanding the problem I would do this:

Enlarge the tracks a little to see the audio wave shapes more easily. Play the section with the unwanted sound and pause at the right end of the unwanted part. (if you don't stop just where you want to use the arrow keys to fine tune the stoping place). Click the Cut icon on the toolbar.

Play the section again and pause at the left end of the unwanted sound and click the Cut icon. If the unwanted portion isn't selected click on it to select it and hit the delete key.
