This sounds like a driver conflict. I would suggest you make sure you have the latest Windows updates and latest drivers for everything. If it doesn't work, re-install Windows, and if that doesn't work either, upgrade Vegas.

Retired,

Could be lots of things, with drivers certainly at the top of the list. I had problems for several weeks, tried everything, including reinstalling Windows. In my case, it turned out being my power supply. Oh, and my problems occurred ONLY in video editing apps (VMS 8 and a demo of Premiere Elements 3).

My power supply should have been fine (an Antec 450watt SmartPower 2), and it did just fine in every other app, including intensive games. However, it turns out that psu has a bad history, and in fact Antec is sending me a better replacement, as they've stopped producing the SP2 450. I commend Antec for their support, btw.

Anyway, I bought an Antec NeoHE 550w, and I haven't had any trouble since.

No way to know if it's your psu, but if you have an extra one you can try, it's worth a shot. When I was told it might be my psu, I didn't believe my friend. Turned out he was right.

I build my own systems and have a 600w in this machine. About a year ago I read a statement from sony that stated they were aware of the problem. There solution was to unplug your usb hub. This does correct the problem and the program starts fine after you do this. I have always just plugged the hub back in as soon as vms started. I just thought some of you may have found another work around for what sony knows is a bug.. Thanks for the replies.

Wow, Retired, that's bizarre. I appreciate your sharing that with us. Not long ago, I upgraded to a Dell WFP2407 monitor, which has USB ports. I haven't connected its usb cable to my PC yet. Now, when I do, if I experience problems, I won't waste time trying to figure out what's going on.

Good luck, and I hope they fix this soon.
