Logging DVD tapes with Vegas 4.0

Can I use Vegas 4.0 as a Media Log tool? How? I want to log tapes from a Canon XL-1 using firewire without digitizing the images to my computer (I just want to look at the images on my computer screen and log the in and out points along with shot notes) so that I can print out a log for use by others in the editing process on Vegas and other edit systems. Is this possible?

Not really. For plain logging you're better off with a VCR with jog/shuttle control. Suitable DV deck, maybe DSR-30.
Just bear in mind you are wearing the tape, if the material is really valuable I'd make dubs first, if you copy via firewire no quality loss and you can put the camera originals in a safe place.
Alternatively, digitize them into the PC and use Vegas or Scenealyser.
