Are you talking about videos captured through Vidcap or ATI's own Multimedia Center (MMC).

I noticed that the MMC likes to capture 640x240 video by default. This results in a video that looks very thin vertically, especially in an app that expects 640x480 or 720x480 video -- i.e., Video Factory.

My guess is there's a pixel aspect ratio mistmatch between your captured clips and VF. You can change this setting in VF- I'd start by changing VF's project Pixel Aspect Ratio to "1.0", unless you already know what the clip pixel aspect is. VF defaults to .9091 (DV).
