Hi people!
I have a project that has one video track and 4 audio tracks. The videotrack is 1h 20min long mpeg-4 file on the timeline.
As long as I dont zoom in or out the video plays back without a moments hesitation on 25fps in the preview window. But as soon as I zoom in or out to edit it starts redrawing the frames of the video track. The size of the mp4 is 700MB. If I press play at any time after zooming it takes 5-20sec for the preview window to catch up to 25fps.
So my question is why is this?
Reason I'm asking is that normally I can have multiple 1-4GB avi files (ranging from 1 min to 30 minutes per clip) on multiple video tracks with 20 audio tracks and I can play back without any problem no matter if I zoom in or out even during playback. There's no lag whatsoever. With the avi files it just plays without any hesitation always at 25fps. I just tried having both the projects open and the other with the mpeg-4 file is just a pain to edit and the other with 20 times more tracks and 6GB more video plays without any lag in the redrawing of the frames. No matter if I choose draft or preview quality.
Is it because the file is so long and it has more frames to redraw on the timeline each time I zoom in or out? Can I do something to help the situtation? Even temporarily? What Im doing is just fitting temp music on a video track for an editor to place the music correctly later on.
Im using Vegas 7. PC with 3GB memory, WinXPhome SP2, Intel dual core 6400@2.13GHz.
Thanks in advance!!
Sami
