"Long" Project Crashing

Working on an hour long production - about 19 mins completed.

Over the last week, working 8 hours daily, have started to have crashes. Now maybe 2 to 4 per day. Sometimes there is a warning suggesting to "save now" other times Vegas just shuts down with no warning. When I re-open, the last edits I did are there, which is GREAT! But, I'm thinking as the project grows in length, and due to it's complexity [9 tracks] it would be wise to end this project and begin a new one where this one leaves off.

Sound like a good idea? Any other suggestions?

If so, what is the proper way to do that?--I want to retain the items in the Project Media. I'm thinking to do a Save As and call it 'section 2' or something and delete everything on all of the timelines, leaving the Project Media alone, then begin placing the clips for the next section. Seems like there should be a cleaner way to do it . . . .

Comments/suggestions?

It's a HP 9040 dedicated to Vegas, nothing else running [except what Bill & HP decided should run]. Defragged regularly. Plenty of drive space left, 3 gigs of RAM.

Thanks!

Hi ABIP,

Are you running Vegas Pro 8?

If so, please read my experiences with a 'long project' I've been building since Pro 8's release.

Break the project up into segments and make sure that they're no more than about 10 mins in length each ... or ... check your memory usage in task manager ... and make sure you do not exceed 1.2GB of PF usage per project segment.

Good luck,
