Boris RED will do what you describe (and a whole lot more). It is one the best tools I have ever bought. But be aware that it is not inexpensive.

3D Track Motion can do stuff like that too. I found a 3D app easier to learn then Red (the 3D app was more suited to what I wanted to do too).

What 3D app are you using?

Corel have a $100 3d program that is very easy to use & designed for exactly this type of purpose. From memory it's Corel 3D motion studio. Very intuitive and for the odd project it is great. Not high end , lacking on some controls, but does exactly what it says and can output hi def (1920X1080)AVI files. You can download trial

The download version is available for $695 right now. It's expensive but that's $300 less than usual. I might just get it.

I'm currently using Blender but it's particle system hasn't really changed in years. The newest version (2.6) didn't add anything to particles so if I ever got the $$ I'd buy a particle program.

For making 3D objects and doing videos/images on them, it's great for (it's also a great modeler, animator and uv-unwrapper).

I will give blender a try but I am also considering getting my first Boris product. Is it important to have BCC before Red 5? What's most important for me right now is to be able to paste text on a transparent rectangular box and have the text appear as the box rotates.

I installed the trial version of RED 5. All I can say is "holy sh*t"! There is an awful lot of potential. The learning curve is going to be steep but it looks extremely worthwhile.

Thanks for the info. MotionStudio looks like a cross between their now defunct Rave and a 3D program they bundled with Draw many years ago. I may get it just to tinker. Although I use blender this could be a lot easier to create basic animations.

Corel must have been buying up companies recently or they finally got a fire lit under their backsides. CAD, more video related apps, sound clips... I'm impressed by all their recent additions.

I took a look at this. I think this is the old eRain Swift3d with some cosmetic changes. Swift3d version 6 (the last version, and now a couple years old) hasn't been very stable for me. Have you found 3D Motion Studio to be stable?

Btw, I found it for $79.

Hi. I haven't used it extensively, played around with it for around 8 weeks, then had a rather nasty virus on teh PC. Got rid of that, everything back upo to speed, but it has corrupted Motion Studio, to teh point where I have uninstalled two or three times now, then got advice from Corel (registry stuff), that didn't solve it adn so I haven't had access to it for the last 2 months or more. Yes, it was very stable for me (Vaio laptop Quad core i7 1.73 GHz, 6 Gig RAM), so nothing special about my laptop, worked fine, did what it said it did. I found many features lacking - I would have liked a "copy & past attrributes" function really useful - think a row of cards/ shapes all turning at same speed, with same image/graphic applied to shape etc. In this same example, I found the (apparent) lack of alignment tools (equispacing etc) quite limiting. Can it map video to 3 D shapes etc - yep, seems to do it fine, as long as you don;t expect too much from a ($79) piece of software. Really easy to use, very quick. Useful for the occasional bit of content, perhaps.
