Vegas 8.1 can utilize up to 16 cores. I don't know of any other program that uses over 4 currently. Those systems are overkill. Understood, this is not meant for the general public.
maybe for what we do (but at 16 cores for vegas, you could run 4 instances of Vegas all running on 16 cores & they wouldn't even touch each other process wise) but companies who host video game servers use a lot of cores. More cores = more servers on a single machine = more income.

And when tomorrow comes, repeat!
This is why I build an above middle of the road computer system.
I don't get too low end which has a negative affect on my workflow and I don't have too high end which costs a lot of money only to have the value go down the drain all too soon.
