Looking for "CSI" glass look tutorial

DVDeviations wrote on 7/3/2004, 3:57 PM
I remember reading a tutorial on one of the forums about creating the "glass" slide look like the intro to CSI (or CSI Miami). I have been looking for it on the creative cow forum, this forum, etc and I can't find it.

Does anyone know the link to this tutorial? Or know how to create this special effect? I have an idea to try something with that effect and the "wave" video effect in Vegas - I want to see if this will look like a "mirage" like you see in the desert.

Thanks in advance,
Colleen

I found it - http://www.creativecow.net/articles/james_colin/glass/index.html

This tutorial is for Adobe After Effects, but I will see if I can do it in Vegas.

I would be very interested in what you figure out on translating this process to Vegas. Please keep us posted as to your progress.

I'm not in front of Vegas right now, but it seems like this could all be pretty easily done natively on the time line. With a bit of Cookie Cutter, Height Bump and maybe lenseflare composited over original footage...? On the cookie cutter, you'd want to vary the size of the video, of course... And to get the different shades of glass, I see light sweep (or is that only in Boris - sorry, I'm not sure) or some other light effect along with some Brightness/Contrast.
If this is as non-helpful as I think jot another note and I'll see what I can come up with when I get home to Vegas.

It's easy to do in Vegas, I posted a veg file for this the other day when this same post was found on the SCVUG site, plus there is a magnifying glass from Dithermaster posted on the Sundance site from Vegas 4.

Can you post the links?

Thanks.

gets you to the login page, but you'll need to register if you haven't already.

Sorry to be dense. I found the Dithermaster magnifying glass veg file. But I couldn't find anything posted by you. Do you have a different moniker on Sundance? Or if not Sundance, where did you post your file? (What is SCVUG? Sundance/Sony Corporation Vegas Users Group??? Just guessing...)

Spot's moniker on Sundance: DSE

SCVUG = Southern California Vegas User's Group which is now really a world-wide group and is a Yahoo mail list.

Spot,

Are you referring to the displacement_Bubbles.veg project? That's good info. But if you read all the details in the AfterEffects tutorial, there is much more to it. They use light point reflection off the glass, edges on the glass, slight opacity of the glass, etc.

The bubbles and magnifying glass examples taught me some valuable techniques. But I'd really like to see how close we (someone...) can get in Vegas to all the stuff described in the AfterEffects "CSI" tutorial.

Spot, do I have to "register" for the Tour - I live in London UK - if I want to access the Resources? Is this Glass veg on the Sundance site or the VASST Tour site? . . Now I'm confusing myself . .
