Looking for smooth playback of HDV m2t in Preview

I want to be able to use the preview window with the smoothest playback, and also good quality. I'm using m2t files on the timeline. I'm currently using the preview (full) setting, which has good quality, but not a smooth playback. I've tried the Draft settings, video was smoother, but the quality was terrible. Dynamic Ram Preview is set at 512mb with 1024 available. I read I could install WD Velociraptor hard drives to increase read rate. Would I use this hard drive on my second hard drive where I render to, or the drive with the OS, or both?
I read the posts about the Raid setups, but I want to try the high speed drives first. Ultimately, in the years to come, the SSD drives will probably take care of it, but it's too expensive right now for those.

thanks,
robert

Many, many posts about this. Check this one: Preview Performance

Thanks for the reply John, but that link appeared to focus on AVCHD. I'm editing m2t files. My only real question is, would I install a WD Velociraptor drive as my second drive, or the drive with the OS, or both?

thanks,

The recommendations in that link had nothing to do specifically with AVCHD. They apply equally to all formats, including m2t.

As long as you have you video on a drive that's separate from your system drive, faster drives won't make much difference, perhaps none at all. Increasing the speed of your processor and the amount and speed of your RAM that would make the most difference.
