Looking for Vegas 3.0b

Hello everyone,

It turns out that my studio has exploded with work. (This is a good thing), but I never got around to upgrading from Vegas 3.0b to the newer 3.0c. Now I can't find my Vegas cd and all my mixes are saved as 3.0b files. As I understand, they are not transferrable....BUMMER.

Does anyone know where I can download the older 3.0b version?

Wait... what's that?... So you've got a KeyGen or Crack for VEGAS 3 and you're looking for the installation file? Is that what you said?

Just kidding...
Is this not what you're talking about? http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step1.asp?CatID=2

You should be able to open your files with VEGAS 3, 4, & 5. Usually they make sure that you are able to open older projects with newer software versions. You just can't open newer projects in older versions.

3.0b to 3.0c is an update – not an upgrade, and doesn't cost anything (if you're a registered Vegas 3 user). Just download it from the update site, install, register and you're good to go.

Files recorded in Vegas 3.0b can not be opened with a later version.

This is what is killing me. I can not find my 3.0b disc and now I can not open my work.

Something strange is going on there. I've never had any problem working with older files in newer versions. They've always opened fine. Even the 3.0b files in Vegas 3.0c case has worked. It's going the other direction that doesn't work. .Veg files created in 3.0c won't open in 3.0b or earlier.

However, you mention "recorded". What files are you talking about. .Veg files aren't recorded. .Wav files can be recorded but it doesn't matter what version was used to record them. .Wav files recorded in any version can be used in any other version. They even work between different software other than Sony's. .Wav files recorded in Microsoft's Sound Recorder can be opened in any version of Vegas, and vice versa.

Just curious, but have you actually tried using 3.0c to open the files yet?

You should be able to open your projects (.veg files) in any newer version of Vegas. Any version of Vegas should be able to open .wav files. If you still have problem, contact Cony support and they should be able to get you a version of 3c. I would suggest upgrading to Vegas 5.

Where did you read / hear that? Sounds unlikely, especially for just going from (b) to (c). Even between whole versions, the old file is usually converted to the new format.

You might as well get the update and at least try it.
