Loosing Marker Text OR making bad DVDs?

Grazie wrote on 6/12/2004, 3:17 AM
Hello people, I MUST be doing something wrong .. .

My TWO workflow methodsare A or B :

Method 1:-
1 - Edit video and have Markers with ready for Chapter transfer to DVDA

2 - Prepare PAL-DV interim avi file within V5

3 - Bring back this newly rendered AVI, and Marker names have gone - Markers are there, names [ Chapter Titles] are gone ..

4 - Produce MPEG2 CBR 8000

5 - Into DVDA2 prepare burn - DVD plays well! No Chapter names available . .

Method 2: [ Okay, I'll do it this way . . ]

1 - Edit video name Markers ready for Chapters for

2 - Render MPEG2 from within V5 - CBR 8000 from within Vegas5 [ that is NO interim AVI file ]

3 - Open in DVDA2 Chapter Names appear in DVDA

4 - Prepare and Burn DVD

5 - DVD doesn't do well on text scrolling ..

Result:

1 - I can get a DVD without Chapter Text from Vegas5 which plays well

OR

2 - Have Chapter Names from V5 and get bad DVDs where there is text scrolling .. .

Any takers on this one?

I'll keep experimenting . . . thank heavens for re-writable DVD+RWs . . hah!

TIA

Grazie

Bump. I'm going to be going down this road myself in the next few days, and am wondering what's up. Hey Grazie, got snow down to 9,000 ft. night before last! Could use a little of that London heat right now. Darryl

DVDA2 is great! Don't get me wrong .. but I'm experiencing some really "sticky" "icky" thingies . ..

Text scrolls that staddle the safe area can create problems . .I'm harping on about this 'cos I really want to know what I'm doing wrong OR understand why it should happen. I've played with CBR, VBR and AvBR .. . quite confusing .. I've made my own templates so I can always get back to the original Sony's sets ..

Q1. If I'm preparing a PAL-AVI for DVDA2 I've got many options. In the MainConcept menu I can go MPEG2 or DVD? What's that about?

Q2. What are the advantages in creating separate AC3 from/within Vegas5? Why doin't I lett DVDA2 do it?

Q3 What are the differences between DVD PAL separate streams; DVD Architecture PAL video stream and then DVD PAL? - PLease don't come back and tell me what the items in the Template tell me .. I can also read these . .. I want to know what, where and why I would choose between each of these?

Q4 How do I get the Marker titles as Chapter titles into DVDA2 from a previously rendered AVI? I render to AVI first to ensure fidelity . .THEN I render an MPEG2 ...

Hey, look .. I've produced some really neat DVDs already . . . I know what I'm asking is a bit wierd as I'm getting success with simple work . .but having the stuff I'm talking about would "close" the business cycle for me on DVDA2 . . . at the moment I do feel thee are some outstanding issues for me that I'm obvioulsy not getting a handle on ..

TIA

Q1: Something sounds wrong in the question. Are you making an AVI file or encoding to mpeg-2?
Q2: You get more control, like disabling preprocessing.
Q3: One creates elemntal streams that DVDA1 couldn't handle.
Q4: You need to tick the Include project markers box I think, but then again why not add the markers into the rendered AVI prior to encoding.

Okay - Created a FINISHED avi, with all the stuff for that edited avi in one final avi READY for creating MPEG. NOW going to make an MPEG2. THEN when I go into MainConcept there is an option to MPEG or DVD .. what's that about?

Q2: You get more control, like disabling preprocessing. - What does this mean?

Q3: One creates elemntal streams that DVDA1 couldn't handle. - PLease explain?

Q4: You need to tick the Include project markers box I think, but then again why not add the markers into the rendered AVI prior to encoding. - Okay farss I do so this, this is why I'm asking. The markers appear but not the text for the Chapter headings ..

. .. I'm still learning ..

Hi Grazie,

It sounds like you have re-rendered the media file from Vegas with changes to marker locations/text after you've already incorporated it in DVDA 2. You need to tell DVDA to pick up the new markers. DVDA maintains its own copy of the markers. This allows you to customize your chapter markers within DVDA and not lose them if you re-render the media.

From DVDA, navigate into the media file and you should see the current markers on the timeline. Click the Load Markers button in the toolbar that is just above the timeline.

The markers for MPEG and AVI files are saved in the .sfl file. If you copy your media file to another folder, be sure to copy the .sfl file along with it.

Tip: you can verify the marker locations and annotation text by viewing the media file in the Vegas trimmer window.

SonyTSW!

It is Sunday? Why are you working?/ ... I'm gonna give what you say a try - it's now 8:15pm here in London UK . . The European Soccer FInals have just started with Engalnd v France . Go on Eng-GA-LAND! Apologies if I don't get on the "wandering text" issue until tomorrow Monday . . . But thanks, I'll get to DVDA2 on Monday!

I like the idea of my TExt coming back into DVDA2 .. .

Hello Grazie, glad you back with us..

Never noticed the text in DVD-A before for the markers.

What would be nice (cool for the Americans) is if the marker text could be added as Sub-titles, thus saving some extra work, and very time a chapter is accessed yo get the help text to Say where you are.
