Loosing my Veggies? And marbles . .

OK, here's a new one for me.

1] From the Script Menu I use a script on a current version of a proj- it works.

2] After using this script I decide to save proj as 4th version of current Veg. Now, before this same proj resided in my NewProject folder - neat. And in fact ALL my versions had been saved there

3] Close down Vegas and reopen by using ANOTHER veg from the NewProject folder. It opens. Decide to open instead that "script" affected 4th version. It isn't in my NewProject folder .. rummage .. rummage . . rummage .. can't find it.

4] Thinks: I locate it by looking at the list of "opened" veggies. It is now in the Script Menu folder.

Not good.

Grazie

Sounds like the problem could be in the script. Is this a script that you've used before in the same version of Vegas without problem.
I know next to nothing about any of the scripting languages (very slack of me I know) so I probably can't help much but the answer to my question might help someone who does know a thing or two about scripts.
Other question, which script was it?

Bob.

Sounds like you manually picked the script. Then when you saved the project it went to the "last used folder" which was your script folder instead of your project folder. You need to always make sure you're in the correct folder when saving the file.

It is about time this was sorted.

If MS Word can give you assigned folders, as too ACID, why not Vegas?

Seems like another Extension needing to be programmed?

Grazie,

I think Ed has given you the correct answer.

The "problem" is one of how Windows works, namely that the last-used folder is provided, by Windows, back to the application. The theory behind this behavior is that when you open something -- in this case a script -- you usually later will want to do something else in that same folder.

It is an issue that has, by definition, no "right" answer, i.e., one that will be correct all the time: Sometimes you want to go back to the same folder, and sometimes you don't. Either way, we all end up cursing whatever program we are using, either because it is being too clever by trying to anticipate what we want, and getting it wrong, or because it fails to make any intelligent decision whatsoever, and therefore forces us every time to navigate to a particular folder. My old version of WinDVD does this and it drives me nuts.

So, as Ed says, you just have to make sure to give a quick glance at the folder icon when you use the Save As option or when you are saving any file for the first time, and make sure it is saving your file to the correct location. This is true in all applications.
