I am a new user of Vegas Video and new to Video Editing in general.
When I render my projects to MPEG2 I lose the audio. This does not seem to happen with other "cheaper" programs that I use.
What am I doing wrong?
I choose Render As and the default Template. If I choose custom to look at the template it has the following Audio Properties: Audio: 224 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, Layer 2.
Do you have DVD Architect? If so, do not use the default template as it's bitrate values are too low for a decent encode (assuming you're doing less than an hour of video). Instead, render the audio using the AC3 format and the video using the "DVD Architect NTSC video stream" template. You'll be much happier with the results.
If you're not using DVDA, then you need to find out what formats (audio & video) your DVD encoding software requires and render accordingly.
BTW, I get audio using the default settings you tried.
rs170a, thanks, I will try that also.
Currently I am rendering a project using a DVD NTSC format (Can't remember exactly what it's settings were and can't look right now because it is in progress).
I will use DVD Architect to burn to DVD, but after rendering I have been using Windows media player to "preview" the video before burning. This when I noticed I have no audio.
Do you hear the audo from the Vegas timeline? If so, then you're OK and the problem is elsewhere.
I'm assuming that you have a software DVD player on your system (usually comes with your burner). If you don't, this could be why you're not hearing the audio.
BTW, use DVDA to create the DVD folders but most folks (myself included) use another app (RecordNow, Nero, etc.) to do the actual burn.
If you are using the DVD Architect template, it doesn't include audio, as it's an elementary stream. If you use this template, render an audio file in AC3 format to the same folder as the video, using the same file name. Architect will automatically recognize the streams and marry them for you.
