losing my fades...

Anybody notice that when editing events on the timeline (esp. moving events between tracks) that some of the video fades (in or out) disappear? This happened several times today. I'm constantly having to reset the fade on events after moivng other events that were near them. I don't think any had cross-fades.

I hadn't noticed that - but when I"m done rendering I can run a test.

But what I had noticed in the past before was that I had a event on the timeline (audio) that when I split it...the default fade in/out to help prevent clicking popped in. Not a big deal, I'm use to it from VAudio and Acid (I just turn it off)....but when I went to move the event after taking off that fade....as soon as I made the move it reapplied itself.

Now...I don't know if the video events do the same thing - but it could be what you are talking about.

Any other thoughts?

I've seen this a few times too, but I haven't been able to pin down what exactly I did to cause it... maybe next time.

Actually, no, I think what I've seen is when you butt an event up against another, and they lose their fades as they come into contact with each other. But thinking about it some more, this may be caused by them slightly overlapping, as if the "snapping" isn't working properly...

On a related note, has anyone noticed that the "snapping" functionality in V4 seems less consistent that on V3? Occasionally I won't be able to get an event to snap into place right next to another...

Yes. I have also seen this.

Okay...here is the deal. I just ran some tests on the fades dropping out and here is what I came up with.

1. Fades don't go away if you overlapp video events on the same line. Well, they do momentarily, but if you move them back to where they were - they retain their original fades.

2. Fades don't go away if you move to a new timeline if there is nothing else on the line.

3. Fades go away every single time if you move a video event to another timeline and it overlaps anothr event (sort of like #1...but when you move them apart the fades go away).

Know what I'm sayin??

I think you mean another track on the timeline... Yes, that's when it happens. Moving events between tracks and then overlapping them with existing events on the track, all fade settings disappear. Annoying to me at least.

Oh yeah...I can see how this can become annoying. Glad you brought it up as an issue so the next time I'm 4 hours in to a 10 minute project and this pops up I won't be so quick to think I'm going mad!!!!

What version of Vegas are you on? I had the same problem in VV3. SF confirmed that they were able to re-create the problem on their end.

To simulate the problem I was experiencing, bring in 4 still images to a new project on the same track. Make sure the option "Automattically overlap multiple selected media" is turned on. That's the option in V4, I don't remember the exact phrase in VV3 since I've upgraded to V4, but the option has to do with creating cross fades automattically when you add media.

Now drag the end of the 4th event to the right to make it's duration a bit longer in time.

So you should have 4 still images on one track with crossfades between them and the 4th event is a little longer than the rest. Finally, drag the 4th image left and right over the other three events.

In VV3, this would cause my crossfades to disappear. In V4 I do not see the problem. In VV3, turning off the feature to auto crossfade clips when adding them to the timeline seemed to keep the problem from appearing.

I'm pretty sure those were the steps I went through to see the problem. Hopefully this helps....
