Loss of image quality with FireWire card capture

I'm going to be traveling over the next 2 days and am planning on taking my laptop (with its FireWire card which plugs into the PCI slot) for capturing 1080i footage. I'm wondering if there's an extra loss in image quality that would occur if I'm capturing with the FireWire card (as opposed to directly connecting the FireWire cable to the FireWire slot on my desktop).

Thanks...

No. Compliant firewire captures bit-for-bit whatever is thrown at it, with no loss of quality. As long as your capture application is not transcoding or causing visible errors, it is a transparent process.
