loss of sound on dvds

All my recent dvds play the sound track for about half the video then nothing.

I was using version 4.0 on a windows XP computer when this started happening, but now I've downloaded a trial of 4.5 to a windows vista computer and it still happens.

The only change of settings I've made is to start using pal settings.
Is this the problem, or is there something else.

Can I see whether the sound is there before I burn the dvd - it is there in the .avi files I'm using.

Thanks

FWIW I'd suggest basic troubleshooting...

Does the DVD play correctly on your PC -- if so, look at your media, burner, &/or the player.

If not -> Write the DVD to your hdd and play it -- does the sound last for the entire video? If not, there's a problem with the DVD itself, and the next step would be to try a different type of source media.

If the DVD on hdd plays correctly, again look at media, burner, &/or player.

There is a problem in DVDA 4b that I believe I've documented in this forum. If you import certain m2v & ac3, DVDA goes through it's file parsing routine and things work fine. If you close the project and re-open it, DVDA can re-parse the m2v, and do so incorrectly. One of the results is a shortened audio track duration, and the cure was to get rid of the indexing files DVDA writes to hdd after parsing the m2v.

I have no idea if that's in any way similar to your problem with avi files. The only other thing I recall at the moment is DVDA (& some other authoring programs) and some players seem to have some problems with some mpeg audio.
