Low Cost Upgrade Not for HD

Looking to up grade my 6 year old AMD system. I have micro ATX MB now and a 400 Watt PS. My video projects will not be HD but just DV off a Sony camera, edited, rendered with VMS 10 and on to DVD. No commercial jobs, or MTV just family stuff. Running XP Pro 32 bit off a 320 Gb Sata HD. ATI AGP (using the digital output) video card, which I understand will need to go in the trash as new MB's don't have the slot. It would be nice to be able to re-use my Firewire card in the new upgrade.

I understand I want to have an Intel processor and at least 4 Gb of DDR3 memory. Looking at a Asus or Gigabyte MB. My confusion is what family of CPU, Sandy Bridge or ?? or which one not to get. I usually get stuff from New Egg or a local place called DIT computers which has treated me right in the past.

Suggestions??

Yes as a matter of fact I did read it. None of it was low cost or just SD. I was not planning on spending a $1,000 to do some faimily videos.

My question I guess should have been what family of processors work or don't work well with VMS10 ?
