PC Data:
Vegas 17, Build 204
Home-built PC running Windows 10
Aorus Master X570
Ryzen 7 3700-X
512GB SSD specifically for rendering and scratch space, 5TB HDD for file storage
128GB physical memory
MSI GE Force RTX 2080 video card (I think it's a 2080)
Those should be the important specs. ALMOST EVERY time I render since installing Build 204 I receive an error message, sometimes 2% into the render, sometimes 98%. The message says "The system is low on memory. You may be able to free memory by closing other applications." My processor use is around 15% when this happens, memory at something like 8%. Tonight I have two instances of 17 open (one is doing nothing right now), Chrome, and Word.
I have attempted the fixes provided in other posts such as adjusting the threads and all that. And it works, sometimes. When I do have a video complete the render it is usually complete with no dropped segments. Not always.
When I used versions 14-16 on my old PC, which was 9 when I retired it last year, and which was a mid-tier PC when I bought it, I could render six 4K videos at once (left overnight because it took hours.) Before I upgraded to 17, I could do the same on this PC (I think I left 12 to render once, as my record.) With 17, the software it crashes if a gentle breeze comes through the room.
I don't see any reason in what I'm doing that 17 would crash so often, so I'm hoping that someone knows how to make this program a bit more stable. The instability was not an issue with Build 149. Unfortunately, it's no longer possible to return to that build. It's a hair on the frustrating side when I can't render a video and type out the information for it's description at the same time.
Thank you for any directions that you can point me in to help me fix whatever is causing 17 Build 204 to crash all the time.
