Low on Memory?

I have an AMD 3200+ with 1.5. GB RAM, and during a render it stopped midway and said an error occurred and that I was low on memory. I checked my apps running and none were. Does anyone out there use a piece of software prior to editing/rendering that frees resources or at least gives you an idea of what resources are available previous to running a heavy memory process? Sick of lagging computer!!!

Thanks

Are you using a bunch of pictures? There are some threads about what to set your RAM to so that this should not happen. Do some searches and I am sure you will find one- there have been several.

Yeah about 280 photos at a total of 170 MB, plus two clips, one 233 MB and another at 40 MB. It's a hog, but my computer should be able to handle it. Yes, I'd love to know where these posts are. I'll start looking, but if anyone can help me locate them....that would be great! I'm not sure what keywords to search.

One possible starting point:

6b hanging - sample veg files

You could render some sections to AVI then sub them onto the project, delete the pictures and remove them from the project. this will free up a ton of memory. V6 is better at this than V5.
