Low Quality on DVD

I am using Vegas Movie Studio+DVD. Upgraded from Screenblast. Question that I have is I am using a Sony 5.1 megapixel camera for my stills and a Sony Digital Video camera for my movies. I am surprised at the poor quality of the image reproduction when burned to DVD. When I plug my Video camera directly into the TV and watch it the picture is almost better than the real thing. When I make a DVD and view it the picture seems out of focus. Could anyone give me an idea of if it is me or what. I was thinking that the video should be as clear as what my camera displays when directly hooked up to the TV.

First of all, are you loading your video from the camcorder into your computer using the Firewire (iLink) interface or are you using USB? You MUST use Firewire in order to get the full DV resolution.

The other factor when making a DVD is the bitrate at which you encode the video. How long is the video that you are trying to fit on the DVD?
