I'm not in front of Vegas right now and don't have any immediate links. You'll get those here soon.
In the mean time, play with Cropping and the Cookie Cutter. I think you'll find them to be very useful for what you're looking for.
I have always been a little confused about lower thirds. It seems like they are mainly used for things like news and espn. What do most people use them for?
Name boards, identifiers, information updates, tickers, popup bugs or teasers, lots of things. But....they're all lower thirds or left thirds. We're starting to see some right thirds now coming into the game too, on stations like Discovery, MTV, etc.
Soon, you'll see silent ads during television shows in left, right, or lower thirds. ESPN has been playing with this a bit. TV and web are coming together dang fast.
Carson,
if you have Vegas 6 (demo or purchased) there are a couple lower thirds you can download from our site to lay in over top of other media as a nested veg.
I've just done an "Upper" thirds . . looks kinda cool too! My next one is gonna have a slanting text runner . . what do we call that one Spot? . .. er . . an Alpine Third?
